8th grade Career Lesson

During the weeks of February 16 – 23, all 8th graders will have Career exploration lessons and create accounts that will be used through their senior year for college and/or career planning.

The lesson focuses on interest and ability surveys and possible career clusters that best align with the student’s interests and skills.  Students can then explore the array of careers, incomes, and education requirements for each career.

Erase The Hate Week 2016

Monday 1/25/16 starts our 4th annual Erase The Hate week.  Erase The Hate week promotes acceptance of others’ differences to eliminate hateful words and actions. Students learn through activities that while we are all unique, we are all people deserving kindness.  The week’s activities include:  Kahoot, Mix-It-Up lunch, daily Victimproof morning videos, and our FEATURE speaker, TOM THELEN, who will present twice to our students during the day and then again at 6pm to students and families.  Pizza and prize drawings available for evening guests.

8th grade Take Stock Scholarship

38  8th graders consistently on-track in academics, behavior, and attendance have received information to apply for the Pasco Education Foundation’s Take Stock in Children Scholarship.  Students were provided with information, deadline date, and resources to contact for further information.  We congratulate these students for their hard work and,even though only one will receive the scholarship, we expect much continued success from them all in the future.

Friday:  Too Bright to Bully — Wear your favorite neon colors

Each day will feature a Victimproof video on how to respond to meanness and unkind words/actions.

VictimProof

VictimProof is a school-wide, Tier I positive instruction for students.  A video from VictimProof is viewed each week to all students to teach all students how to break free from the victim mindset and to stand up to bullying using practical strategies to “be the change” on campus.  Created by Tom Thelen, one of America’s top anti-bullying speakers who has spoken thousands of schools, colleges, and youth organizations,VictimProof has been featured on PBS, CBS, The National Honor Society, and The National Association of Student Councils, AND Mr. Thelen will be speaking at RBSMS!!  Details coming soon!!

After the video, discussion questions help students personalize the lesson and learn new ways to cope with others.

Starting in September, every week our school students will learn strategies to handle unkind words and actions, becoming “victim-proof”.  This curriculum will empower students in their options for dealing with others and will encourage students to stand together as upstanders, instead of bystanders.  #pasco2gether
