Make sure you Read, Read, Read!

Talk to your child about what he or she is reading. Ask open-ended questions such as “What do you think about that story?” “What would you have done if you were that character?”

Make reading and writing a regular part of your daily home activities. Let your child see you using reading and writing for real purposes.

Visit the public library. Help your child to get his or her own library card.

Read to your child regularly, even after your child is able to read some books independently.

Listen to your child read. Use strategies to help your child with tricky words. For example, when your child comes to an unfamiliar word, you might say, “Skip it and read to the end of the sentence. Now try again – what makes sense and looks like the word that you see?”

Praise your child’s efforts at reading.

Play word games such as thinking of different words to describe the same things.

Support your child’s writing. Have writing materials such as paper, markers, and pencils available. Read what your child writes.

Set reasonable limits for television viewing.

Last Day of School is Friday, May 26.

It has been an amazing year. You will have access to Bookshelf, our web page and our You Tube Channel to keep your child engaged and learning throughout the summer. You will also be receiving 3 calendars of ideas and activities to help guide you as well to keep them motivated and on track.

Welcome Back!

We are starting our fourth quarter of Kindergarten! We will be working on informative writing, learning about living things and 2D and 3D shapes. We will continue to work on addition and subtraction within 5. We will also learn new power words and practice the ones we already know. Our goal is for your child to be a 2G reader when they leave in May. Make sure you are reading nightly on Bookshelf.

Laces for Love!

Please bring in a new pair of shoes and socks that are your child’s size to donate to a needy child in Pasco County. Show your kindness between now and February 3. Fill out the red sneaker with your child’s name and return the slip, shoes and socks to your child’s teacher.
