ODES Art Program

Our ART Program seeks to build children’s confidence, familiarity and skill in working with a wide variety of materials. We want to introduce and have your child try as many art mediums as possible in an elementary setting. Usually, experience with a particular medium is revisited each year throughout his/her elementary career.

Some examples of mediums we visit most years are:

Pencil              colored pencil              markers           oil pastel          chalk pastel     Watercolor paints        tempera paints             textiles             clay

Our goal is to give each child an introduction into a wide variety of art mediums.  Our hope is that your child will discover his/her strengths. We strive to provide new experiences and new ways of thinking. We encourage higher order thinking skills to strengthen the learning processes to make life more meaningful and connected to the world. With this experience, your child will have a better understanding of what art is and what art can be. Your child will be able to decide if he/she would like to delve into the world of art further.

*Art provides opportunities for self-expression, which is essential for all children.

*Art helps to develop a positive self-image within the child as well as a respect for his/her own creative work and that of others.

*Art helps to develop problem solving and decision making skills.

*Art serves as a universal language for children in learning to understand and accept diversity.

*Art is essential in the creation of a holistic approach to education.
