Classroom Procedures

Communication: Communication between home and school is important to your child’s success this year. There are many ways to keep informed of school events.

Student Planner –  Please review your child’s homework, discuss the book they are reading. I will make HW slips daily and your child will need to be sure to have that glued into their planner. I remind them to read the slip and ensure they know what HW is for that night.

Conferences – I hope to meet with you at least once during the year to discuss your child’s progress, just call me to set up an appointment.

Progress Reports – A progress  report is sent home half way through each nine week quarter.  This report will indicate success in each academic area as well as in work habits.  Please feel free to see me for more detailed information at any time during the grading period.

Report Cards – Report cards will be electronically available every nine weeks.

E-mail- – You may e-mail me at school if you have any questions, concerns or just something interesting for me to look at.  Please don’t send changes in how your child will go home by e-mail because there may be days that I am unable to access my e-mail until after dismissal.

Phone – You may call me at school and the front office will take a message and I will return your call during my planning period or before/after school.

Birthdays – We enjoy celebrating birthdays. This year we are asking for healthy treats for birthdays, the best option is to buy items from the cafeteria.  Please let me know a day in advance if you plan to send in treats so I can plan accordingly.

Homework

Homework will be assigned Monday – Thursday on a regular basis, and over long holiday weekends.  It will typically consist of independent reading, a reading comprehension activity, vocabulary and math skills, but science, social studies, and other projects and assignments may be added periodically. Look for your child’s homework in their homework folder. Your child will have daily homework assignments in their planner.  Students will use their planners to ensure communication and allow the students to develop strong organizational skills.

Nightly ReadingYour child should read 20 – 30 minutes every night and record the title of the book, author, and pages read in their reading log (If it is the same book, only the pages are necessary).  If you build this into the homework routine immediately, this will become automatic, and extremely beneficial to your child’s reading development .
