Dear Parents/Guardians:

Congratulations!  Your child is about to embark upon the exciting and challenging world of public speaking.

Your child’s 5th Grade Team will be participating in an Opinion Based Writing Contest.  Students will compete in classroom and possible school-wide speaking contests with winners going on to a county TEDx Competition.

Your child has been prepared for this educational opportunity.  Over the past few months, your child was taught how to organize and develop ideas on specific topics.  Your child will now need your support at home to select a topic on the theme “Taking a Stand”  so they can prepare a final speech.

Speeches:

* must be original and student written.

* must be between 2 and 3 minutes.

Note Cards are not considered visual aids.

Classroom winners will advance to a school contest and school winners will advance to a county contest.  The following is the TEDx Pasco County Schools Information
