The Sunlake Cross Country team went into states ranked 12th for the boys and 7th for the girls. They pushed through states and worked hard, by the end the boys came in 4th place, and the girls did an amazing job as well coming in 10th place. We took the time to interview one of the senior cross country girls that placed 6th individually,

Liina Winborn: “The Sunlake Cross Country team went into states ranked 12th for boys and 7th for girls (based on average times and regional times).
We were all really excited because it was the first year the whole boys team made it. The Sunlake Cross Country team went into states ranked 12th for boys and 7th for girls (based on average times and regional times).
We were all really excited l because it was the first year the whole boys team made it. I think the nerves really didn’t kick in until we lined up on the line. It was really motivational to have everyone cheering each other on and knowing we were there to compete this year as opposed to just being there to be there. We ran the tough course with all our effort and knowing that this was what we had been training for. The boys did phenomenal, coming in 4th in the state as a team and the girls came in 10th.  I placed 6th individually for girls, which really proved to me what I’m capable of. We are definitely sad that the season is over but so excited for next season because we know, with hard work and dedication, we can do even better.”

We also interviewed a cross country senior that finished 25th,

Dominic Burleson: “States was one of the best experiences we had as a team. To go from unranked to 4th in the state is a huge accomplishment for our team, and this year is the start to something great. The boys team won districts, won regionals, and placed top 5 at states for the first time ever. We were all hyped the whole season because we wanted to be the best team possible, and we wanted to prove that the state rankings were underestimating our team.”

Congratulations to the cross country team for all their hard work and dedication –  it really paid off!
