This past weekend, at Lecanto High School, the boys Cross Country team was named the Regional Champions. Drew Knobl tells us that, “The race was very good, we moved together as a unit and tried to focus our composure on the first mile of the race. Then, when the second and third mile came around, that’s where we started to move our way up. All of our hard work over the past couple months has been paying off significantly.” All of the boys have great chemistry together, so it helps when the races get tougher and tougher. Regionals was a success. We did what we had to do and won the race for the first time in school history. It’s feels great to be apart of it. Saturday is the Florida State Championship and we’re ready to fight.” When we talked to Cade Whitfield he said, “This Sunlake team is like no other cross country team. I’ve become very close with a lot of my teammates and I’d like to thank Coach Randal for always being there to push us in Cross Country and school.”

On another note, our girls placed third. Here is what Lina Winborn, a part of the Girl’s Cross Country team, tells us about it, “At Regionals, I finished the 5k in 18:03 minutes. What kept me going, and always does, is ‘Sisu’, a Finnish word that means determination and perseverance; its something that really hits home for me.  This season has been amazing; it has pushed me harder than ever and it showed me what I’m capable of. I’m sad its almost over. The Regional course was challenging at times with the hills but, the vast majority was downhill and it was a fast course and almost everyone PR’d [set personal records]. Thank you so much for all the support, we all appreciate it so very much!”

We are very proud of our Cross Country team and wish them the best of luck at the state championship!!
