There are ten varieties of USA Pears, each with its own color, flavor, & texture. Pears are in season nearly year-round. They are a great source of fiber, potassium, antioxidants and vitamin C. Pears are one of the most easily digested fruits and people rarely have any allergies to them! For pleasingly palatable pears, pair them with peanut butter, low-fat yogurt or slice them with granola and cinnamon for a healthy snack. So next time you are prepping to pick up some quick healthy energy, say “Pass the pears, please!”

“Pear-adise Smoothie”

This smoothie is a great idea for an afterschool snack or fun summer treat! Feel free to swap out any fruits in the recipe for your favorite fruit instead.


  • 2 cups peeled, cored, and chopped USA Pears, such as Anjou, Bosc, or Red Anjou
  • 1 banana, peeled
  • 1 cup blueberries
  • 2 cups orange juice
  • 1 cup vanilla yogurt
  • 2 cups ice cubes


  • Place pears, banana, and orange juice in a blender. Blend until smooth. Add yogurt and ice cubes and blend until thick and creamy. Serve in tall glasses with an extra wide straw or a spoon.

Preparation time: 10 minutes; yield: Serves 4
