Bright Futures Scholarship & Other State Financial Aid Programs<\/strong><\/p>\n

Below is a PDF file of the state of Florida Bright Futures scholarship program eligibility information based upon graduation year.\u00a0 Remember that the scholarships require a minimum 3.5 GPA\u00a0 in your academic core for the Florida Academic Scholars award and a 3.0 GPA for Florida Medallion Scholars award.\u00a0 The Gold Seal Vocational award has different criteria and usage guidelines.\u00a0 The application is completed after October 1st during your senior year, however, you are continuously working towards one of these scholarships from 9th grade through high school graduation.\u00a0 So, make every grade count!\u00a0 This information can also be found on the Bright Futures website.<\/p>\n

FAFSA – “Free Application for Federal Student Aid”<\/strong><\/a><\/p>\n

The FAFSA, or “Free Application for Federal Student Aid”, opens on October 1st this year.\u00a0 Seniors and college students must complete this form prior to and during each year\u00a0that they are\u00a0enrolled in college, in order to potentially qualify for and receive federal student aid. Remember, seniors and parents must each create a secure PIN, or electronic signature, in order to process or access the student’s “error-free” FAFSA.\u00a0 Click on the FAFSA<\/a> link to file your FAFSA for the given funding year.\u00a0 Seniors\/parents, do you need assistance completing your FAFSA?\u00a0 You can call the federal government FAFSA customer service help line at 1-800-433-3243.<\/p>\n

College Housing Assistance Programs<\/strong><\/p>\n

The Southern Scholarship Foundation (SSF)<\/strong> provides rent-free housing opportunities for income-eligible students and proudly serves students attending four major universities in Florida: Florida A&M University<\/a>, Florida Gulf Coast University<\/a>, Florida State University<\/a>, and the University of Florida<\/a>. They also serve students attending Tallahassee Community College<\/a> and Santa Fe College<\/a>.\u00a0 The deadline to apply is April 1st of each year for the following Fall semester.\u00a0 For more information and to apply, visit the Southern Scholarship Foundation (SSF)<\/a>.<\/p>\n

The Cooperative Living Organization or CLO<\/a> is a low-cost housing option for incoming UF and Santa Fe College students in Gainesville, Florida.\u00a0 Student residents of this program pay about half as much in rent as their peers in on-campus housing and enjoy a meal plan, parking, internet, and utilities included as well.\u00a0 CLO is located only a block north of UF’s main campus.\u00a0 Applications and further details are available on the CLO<\/a> website.<\/p>\n
