Today on the 23rd of September, Sunlake High School hosted their first pep rally to present the conclusion of homecoming week. The pep rally celebrated the winners of skit night and powderpuff, and the football team. The pep rally was seperated into two time periods due to the amount of students who attended Sunlake. I was lucky enough to be able to go to the 2nd pep rally for freshman and sophomores around 1:20pm. Seahawks around the school were excited all week long for the first pep rally and it definitely lived up to everyone’s expectations.
As everyone gathered into the gym, they were welcomed with the junior varsity and varsity cheerleaders preforming a routine. The Sunlake band performed one of their songs with the Sunlake color guard dancing right in front of the band. The cheerleaders of the winning powderpuff team helped the crowd get ready and get them excited for what was coming up. Soon after the homecoming court was announced to the school the sophomore student council competed in a little game. The sophomores did a really good job and beat the freshman team during the game. It was time then for the winning powderpuff cheerleaders to take the floor and perform their stunning half time routine. The crowd went wild and was cheering every second of it.
Everyone was expecting the normal routine that was recently preformed on Monday, but there was a surprise for one lucky girl. As the guys were getting into a cheerleading pyramid, one of the guy fliers had asked one girl to homecoming. She happily answered yes as the seahawks cheered for the homecoming date. Shortly afterwards, the official Sunlake cheerleaders and the senior powderpuff cheerleaders started a cheer-off to find out who had the most spirit.
The Sunlake drum line took the floor after the cheerleading battle and showed all of their skills that the students learned in the band program. You could definitely see the excitement in their eyes to preform in the pep rally.
