Media Center Holdings, Policies & Procedures for Students
Media Collection and Services: The Media Center has more than 20,000 books and 30 periodicals for research and recreational reading, and ebook access. In addition to our local holdings, books not available at Mitchell High may be borrowed from other schools via interlibrary loan. Other services available to students are online databases, internet research stations, word processing stations, printers, scanners, a color printer, and a copy machine.
Passes: Students are welcome to come to the Media Center before school, after school, and with classes throughout the school day. Media passes are required when visiting the center individually during the school day, including during lunch periods. Passes are available from any teacher, at the teacher’s discretion. Lunch passes are available from the lunch room supervisors. However, food and drink are not permitted in the Media Center.
Check Out: Students may check out three books at a time, for two weeks at a time. Seniors may check out up to five books during senior project research. Some Reference books may be checked out overnight. Back issues of magazines may be checked out for one week. A valid ID number is required for all check out.
Overdue Books: Students with overdue books will not be allowed to check any more out until books are returned. Also, seniors with overdue books will not be permitted to participate in the graduation ceremony until obligations are met. Lost or damaged books must be paid for. Please return or renew books by their due date!
Printing: Six student computers can access the printers in the Media Center. Students may print 10 pages for free per day. After free pages are exhausted, pages cost 10 cents each. See the Media Staff to print. Color pages may be printed for 25 cents per page.
Copies can be made on our copier for 10 cents per page.
Databases and Passwords: The Media Center subscribes to several online databases including EBSCOhost, Grolier Encyclopedia, Gale Power Search, and SIRS Researcher. Databases are accessible from computers on our network, and can be accessed by password offsite. Pick up an informational flyer in Media or call 727-774-9230 during the school day for password information.
